Infra Defence is a food supplement with probiotic cultures, prebiotic fibre and vitamin D, intended to provide additional intake of these nutrients in cases of deficiency or increased requirements.

Ingredients

The most commonly used probiotic cultures belong to the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium genera:

• Lactic acid bacteria (L. salivarius, L. gasseri, L. acidophilus and L. rhamnosus): their main functions are to rebalance intestinal flora, prevent the development of pathogenic bacteria, improve digestive function by counteracting constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal bloating and bad breath, help improve lactose intolerance, and support immune defences by stimulating immunoglobulin production and macrophage activity.
• Bifidobacteria (B. bifidum): help prevent intestinal colonisation by pathogenic bacteria by producing acids such as lactic acid, acetic acid and short-chain fatty acids that lower intestinal pH, as well as other substances with strong disinfectant properties, such as hydrogen peroxide, that discourage the development of pathogens. They also work with lactic acid bacteria to restore a balanced intestinal flora.
• Prebiotic fibre (acacia fibre and inulin): insoluble fibres capable of absorbing water. These substances can reach the large intestine intact and undigested (where a small amount of food absorption and stool formation take place) and be used and transformed by the bacteria of the intestinal flora. They stimulate the growth of saprophytic bacterial populations, helping restore balance to the intestinal ecosystem and its functions, including the production of short-chain fatty acids. They can also trap nutrients, resulting in reduced absorption of sugars and fats.
• Vitamin D: plays an important role in activating the immune system. Without it, T cells are unable to respond to and fight the most serious infections threatening the body, as this vitamin promotes T-lymphocyte differentiation. It also appears to be involved in the production and release of chemotactic substances such as cytokines, which are essential for activating other immune cells and act in the second stage of the body’s protection against both bacterial and viral infections.
• Directions for use: dissolve the contents of one sachet in half a glass of water.
